About Sandra Schoen

Sandy is a technical writer with a degree in Chemical Engineering. She earned P.Eng. designation while Quality Assurance Manager at a foundry. (Note: Her engineering license does not apply to computers or software.)

She has written documentation for a variety of clients and audiences, including company presidents, customers, registrars, and the people on the shop floor. In other words, people who have to read it but don't want to. She achieved ISO-9000 registration for a 100-employee company. In her spare time she writes fiction.

She spent her youth teaching Girl Guides how to camp. She is now a storyteller with the Guelph and Baden guilds, and performs regularly at the Boathouse and the Story Barn.

Philosophy

Keep it simple. Most of the fancy bells and whistles either don't work on older systems, don't work on newer systems (Internet Explorer 7 did not work for 13% of existing websites) or annoy your audience. Yes, some of your clients still use dial-up and old computers.

Give your prospective customers enough neat things to get them interested, and confidence that you are the person they want to call. Do it before they look elsewhere.

Give your existing customers what they want without wasting their time.

Make it reliable, just like you.
