WEBSITE DESIGN FOR INDIVIDUALS AND SMALL BUSINESSES

PmWiki Software

Once we have colours, layout and content, we need to put them together. We use the PmWiki program, www.PmWiki.org, to do this.

PmWiki allows you to edit your site's content from any computer, at any time.

It allows us to change colours, layout or content without changing anything else. Some older programs tie things together. If you changed the colour scheme, you had change it on every page.

Lastly, it lets us offer powerful features such as search and recent changes pages, email notification when the site is changed, multiple skins, and access control, with minimal extra work.

PmWiki has many users, including commercial sites, hobbyists and serious programmers. The community is knowledgeable, helpful and varied. Sandy is an active participant.

I can also create sites using plain old-fashioned HTML, but they are not as versatile or easy to maintain.
